Site Design Project Engineer – Pittsburgh, PA
If you are a civil engineer with two to four years of experience, and looking for an opportunity to advance your consulting engineering career, consider a move to R.A. Smith National. We are currently seeking a Site Design Engineer for our Pittsburgh office (in Tarentum, PA).

Site Design Project Manager—Land Development Services –Brookfield, WI
R. A. Smith National has an opening available for a site design Project Engineer/Project Manager in our Land Development Services Division – Brookfield, Wisconsin. Candidates for the position must have previous experience in site development, utilities, grading, drainage, storm water management design and permitting.
The qualified candidate for this position will have five plus years’ experience in site development and proficiency with AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred) in addition to the following:
- Strong organization skills
- The ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- The ability to work both independently and closely with/under the direction of the Director of Land Development Services and other Project Managers
- The ability to manage clients effectively, ensuring their satisfaction and encouraging repeat business
- The ability to represent the firm at meetings and conferences for purposes of project management and new and existing client development
- The ability to market to clients, bring new clients and projects to the firm and provide a client referral list
- The ability to make adaptations and modifications of standard techniques, procedures and criteria
- The ability to devise solutions to problems
- The ability to deliver projects on time and within budget
- The ability to plan, develop, coordinate and direct large engineering projects in addition to smaller projects
- The ability to work collaboratively with senior technicians and provide direction as needed
- The ability to review invoices and prepare monthly project billings
- The ability to make decisions regarding overruns and write offs
Qualifications:
- BSCE degree

Candidates must have previous experience in site development, utilities, grading, drainage, storm water management design and permitting. Candidates for this position should also have a desire and ability to interact with clients for the purpose of securing new projects.
The Project Manager will have the ability to work both in a team environment and independently to plan, develop, coordinate and direct large and small engineering projects. The Project Manager must have strong design skills with the ability to make adaptations and modifications as required. Strong verbal and written communication skills are also required for this position. In addition to engineering design, candidates for this position must have the ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Qualifications:BSCE Degree
California PE License
5+ years experience as a site designer

Structures Manager & Senior Project Engineer (Bridges) – Brookfield, WI
R. A. Smith National has opportunities for individuals with a strong structural background. We are seeking an individual to manage and lead the Firm’s Structures Department (previous managerial experience preferred). We are also seeking a Structures Engineer for this department. Both positions will require a Wisconsin licensed Structures Engineer (Bridges) in our Brookfield office. We are looking for a creative professional who is well-organized, possesses excellent communication skills, likes challenging work and is not afraid to assume a leadership role. We are looking for a team-oriented person who has well-rounded engineering experience working in concrete and steel design with a Wisconsin bridges focus.
Responsibilities:
• Analyze complex steel and reinforced concrete structures using appropriate linear and non-linear finite element programs in a timely manner
• Determine service requirements and design the structure and components to accommodate those requirements
• Prepare plans and details to communicate the structural design to the construction personnel
• Interpret soil reports to determine properties, site conditions and loading to be used in design
• Present results and conclusions of finite element studies in a clear and concise format
• Formulate logical and objective conclusions; recognize alternatives and their implications; make recommendations as needed
• Provide verbal and written reports documenting project status, action items and results
• Oversee all aspects of assigned projects including workflow for team members and general progress
Requirements:
• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Civil, or Structural Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering (Bridges)
• 5+ years of experience analyzing structures using both linear and nonlinear concepts
• Wisconsin PE License
• AutoCAD and MicroStation experience (Civil 3D preferred)
• Proficient in LRFD Bridges Retaining Wall and Sign Structure Design

• Be innovative by looking beyond the norm in analyzing different structures and components

• Clearly communicate ideas and concepts both verbally and in writing
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical principles with the ability to translate them into effective designs

• Understand universal solid and fluid engineering concepts; stress, strain, yield, pressure, density, fluid dynamics, etc. and apply to structural analysis
• Excellent grasp of mathematics, structural analysis and engineering methods
• Understanding of soil properties and behavior
