Interested in serving disadvantaged communities and enhancing the lives of others by using your engineering talents? Dream of traveling with other like-minded engineers as you take in another’s country’s culture and natural beauty? Then you better not miss the Engineers Without Borders–Wisconsin Professional Partners (EWB–WPP) kick-off meeting!

Attend the EWB–WPP 2016 meeting to learn about membership, meet other professionals, learn about new projects and find out how you can get involved through either design or on-site construction. The WPP chapter will highlight projects located in Guatemala, primarily in the Joyabaj municipality. Projects showcased at the meeting will be designed, led and constructed by the professional chapter.

Troy Hartjes Joins R.A. Smith National as Senior Project Manager

Troy Hartjes has joined R.A. Smith National — a nationwide, multi-disciplined civil and structural engineering and surveying firm — headquartered in Brookfield, Wis., as senior project manager in the municipal services division.

Hartjes brings nearly 20 years of municipal public works engineering experience to this role. Hartjes makes a great asset to R.A. Smith National’s municipal clients due to his extensive background in urban and rural roadway rehabilitation and construction, as well as sanitary sewer and water main system design. His extensive experience further includes: stormwater conveyance systems, stormwater management, stormwater utilities, comprehensive drainage plans and site development. Also, Hartjes has assisted municipal clients with capital improvement budgeting and grant writing.

At R.A. Smith National, his responsibilities include client and project management, quality control, and design and coordination of municipal engineering and land development projects.

Hartjes holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, with a dual emphasis in municipal and transportation engineering, from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He is a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin.

Hartjes currently resides in Grafton, Wis.
