Scott Ginal Joins R.A. Smith National as Structures Manager

Scott Ginal, P.E., S.E. has joined R.A. Smith National – a multi-disciplined civil engineering and surveying firm – Brookfield, Wis., as the structures manager. 

Ginal brings more than 11 years of structural design experience in the construction industry. He has provided structural design services to state and local government, including the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, county highway departments, and municipalities; as well as private sector clients including developers, architects and others. His expertise includes the design of bridges, retaining structures, wastewater treatment facilities and buildings. Examples of Ginal’s projects include the Marquette Interchange Mega-Project in Milwaukee, Wis.; CTH K Bridge in Marathon County, Wis.; CTH OK Reconstruction in Sheboygan County, Wis.; Jennie-O Turkey Store Pretreatment System in Willmar, Minn.; Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements Phase 2 in Eau Claire, Wis.; Bayshore Mall Renovation Project in Glendale, Wis.; and St. Catherine’s Hospital in Kenosha, Wis. 

Ginal has a bachelor of science in civil engineering with a minor in mathematics from Marquette University. He also earned his master of science in structural engineering and his master of business administration with a finance emphasis from Marquette University. Ginal is registered as a structural engineer in Illinois and as a professional engineer in Wisconsin.

Prior to joining R.A. Smith National, Ginal was the lead structural bridge engineer and project manager at a Wisconsin civil engineering firm. Ginal currently resides in Port Washington, Wisconsin. 

Joseph Diekfuss Joins R.A. Smith National as Structural Engineer

Joseph Diekfuss, Ph.D. has joined R.A. Smith National – a multi-disciplined civil engineering and surveying firm – Brookfield, Wis., as a structural engineer.  

Joe’s education and expertise in structural engineering will add to the capabilities of R.A. Smith National’s structural division. He has a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. After achieving his bachelor’s degree, Joe earned both his master of science (2010) and doctoral (2013) degrees in civil engineering (structures) from Marquette University.

Joe brings four years of expertise as a research assistant at Marquette University. While at Marquette, Joe conducted research which led to the development of a reliability-based fatigue assessment procedure for prescribing inspection intervals for Wisconsin’s inventory of sign support structures.

Prior to earning his graduate degrees, Joe was first a co-op and then a project engineer for R.A. Smith National. During that time, Joe helped design/draft bridge plans for several WisDOT deck overlay and replacement projects, provided on-site inspection services for the construction of a prestressed concrete girder bridge (CTH ES over CTH Y) in New Berlin, Wis. and coordinated infrastructure reconstruction/rehabilitation projects for several other communities in southeastern Wis. including Greendale, Muskego, New Berlin, and West Milwaukee. 

Joe currently resides in Muskego, Wisconsin.
