R.A. Smith National Projects are Awarded 2012 Top Projects by Daily Reporter

R.A. Smith National – a multi-disciplined civil engineering and surveying firm – Brookfield, Wis., provided professional services for several projects that have been recognized as 2012 Top Projects by The Daily Reporter. The projects included 124th Street (Milwaukee and Waukesha counties) as well as several projects in the city of Milwaukee including Alterra Coffee Roasters, Summerfest, Westlawn and Hilton Garden Inn.

These five projects were recognized based on their innovation, design effort and client satisfaction. Team members will attend a May 2, 2013, awards ceremony and reception that will take place at the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee.

Tom Mortensen will speak to the UWM School of Architecture and Urban Planning (SARUP) chapter as part of the Emerging Green Builders program by the USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council). His presentation will discuss various design techniques, approaches, principles, successes, pitfalls and roadblocks to designing, getting approvals for and establishing a native landscape in anything but a natural environment – the stormwater facility. Design techniques and real world projects will be shared in relation to using native landscape in site-specific ways.

Emerging Green Builders is a USGBC program working to integrate students and young professionals into the green building movement.
