The village of Greendale recently installed dual 4’ x 10’ box culverts near the intersection of W. College Avenue and S. 60th Street. The culverts provide improved flood protection to a significant residential area. R.A. Smith National, Greendale’s village engineer, designed the flood control improvements and provided construction services. C.W. Purpero is the project contractor.

BROOKFIELD, Wis. — R.A. Smith National – a multi-disciplined civil engineering and surveying firm – Brookfield, Wis., has named Richard Schluge, Pat Hawley and Doug Senso as new associates of R.A. Smith National.
Richard Schluge is a civil engineer and group manager in the Construction Services Division. He has been with R.A. Smith National since 1999 and has more than 32 years of experience in construction services. Schluge’s experience includes resident engineering and inspection, municipal engineering and project management. His primary responsibility is providing resident engineering services to the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) for major interceptor sewer, gas pipeline and water reclamation projects. His most recent project experience includes the Emerald Park Landfill gas pipeline and metering station for the Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility, Franklin/Muskego gravity interceptor rehabilitation and Canal Street Wet Weather relief sewer. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Wisconsin. Schluge lives in Muskego, Wis.
Pat Hawley is a project manager in the Transportation Division. He has been with R.A. Smith National since 2003 and has more than 18 years of project management experience. His areas of expertise include: traffic planning, access management, site circulation, traffic impact studies, roundabouts and parking studies. Hawley presents regularly at conferences, publishes transportation articles in national publications, and teaches classes at Marquette University and through the University of Wisconsin system. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Wisconsin, a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer and WisDOT certified roundabout designer. Hawley’s recent experience includes the completion of a parking rate study for the City of Racine; traffic safety, operations and access studies for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) for the Bluemound Road corridor; and traffic impact studies for several Woodman’s and Walmart’s. Hawley lives in Delafield, Wis.
Doug Senso is a senior project manager in the Transportation Division. He has been with R.A. Smith National since 2002 and has more than 18 years of experience in roadway design and transportation construction management. He has completed a variety of projects including the design of urban and rural roadways, intersections and roundabouts. Senso is a professional engineer in the state of Wisconsin and a Wisconsin Department of Transportation certified roundabout designer. His recent experience includes design services for the STH 16 and STH 71 roundabout in Sparta, Wis., the STH 20 and STH 75 roundabout in Racine County and STH 47 in Outagamie and Shawano Counties. Senso was the project manager for two recent award-winning projects including the STH 145 reconstruction in the village of Richfield and the Calhoun Road reconstruction in the city of Brookfield. Senso lives in Freedom, Wis.
