by Jessica Pairrett 12. August 2016 03:46

American Public Works Association’s PWX (Public Works Expo) 2016
Minneapolis Convention Center
Minneapolis, MN
August 28-31, 2016

Gary Raasch, P.E., CFM, senior water resources project manager of R.A. Smith National, will present on two topics at APWA’s PWX 2016. Raasch will present “Habitat Restoration and Public Works,” which will provide conference attendees a look at a project completed within Wisconsin’s Native American Stockbridge-Munsee Community. A railway, constructed more than 100 years ago, greatly impacted the area’s ecological integrity. Special design considerations were required to restore the creek and ecosystem. Angela Waupochick, wetland specialist with the Stockbridge-Munsee Community, is a co-presenter.

Raasch’s second presentation is titled “Kenosha County Park and Ride Project: Innovative Partnerships, Design and Construction Techniques Resolve Multiple Challenges.” This topic will explore how, despite critical timelines and tight budgets, the project found success through innovative construction techniques, environmentally responsible design and collaboration. John Steinbrink, Jr., director of public works for the Village of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., will co-present.

IECA Great Connections: The Midwest Connection for Stormwater and Erosion Control Professionals 2016 Conference
La Crosse Center
La Crosse, WI
July 26-28, 2016

Jeff Mazanec, P.E., municipal services senior project manager at R.A. Smith National, will present at the Great Connections stormwater and erosion control conference. Mazanec will be presenting on two different topics. "Lessons Learned from 46,000 Erosion/Sediment Control Inspections" provides a summary analysis of data collected throughout many site erosion and sediment control inspections in several states between 2007 and 2015. Mazanec’s "The MS4 Permit: A Holistic Approach to Stormwater Management" presentation will take a step back to view an overall approach for stormwater management per MS4 permit requirements.

This bi-annual conference is co-organized by IECA (International Erosion Control Association) chapters, and brings together stormwater professionals, contractors, planners and designers from 12 different states and four Canadian provinces.
