R.A. Smith National’s Laura Zavadil, Joseph Diekfuss, David Boldt and Andrew Axt have each attained their Wisconsin professional engineer registrations.

Laura Zavadil is a traffic engineer with five years of experience at R.A. Smith National. Her experience includes traffic impact studies, traffic analysis for intersection control alternatives, work zone traffic operations analysis, traffic forecasting and access management. The structures include single- and multi-span bridges, retaining walls, box culverts and low-rise buildings. He is also co author of three articles recently published in the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Journal of Structural Engineering. The articles describe a methodology for prescribing inspection intervals for mast-arm sign support structures that better align inspection needs with limited fiscal and human resources. Diekfuss has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (structural and geotechnical emphases) from the University of Wiscosin-Platteville and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. in civil engineering (structural emphases) from Marquette University.
David Boldt is a structural engineer at R.A. Smith National with over 10 years of experience in the industry, including not only six years of structural design but also several years of related experience in the repair and restoration of existing buildings, as well as testing and inspection of structural steel. He has applied his structural engineering skills to a variety of building types, including health care, office, and civic projects throughout Wisconsin, as well as a number of higher education and K-12 facilities. Boldt also performs assessment and consulting services related to existing structures, most notably for the facilities maintained by the University of Wisconsin Athletics Department, including Camp Randall Stadium and the Kohl Center. He has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Duke University.
Andrew Axt is a civil engineer in R.A. Smith National’s transportation division. He has more than three years of experience on WisDOT and local municipal projects.
