R.A. Smith National has been retained by the City of Brookfield to provide design services for the reconstruction of Calhoun Road from just north of County M (North Avenue) to just south of WIS 190 (Capitol Drive). R.A. Smith National is providing transportation design, traffic engineering, surveying, stormwater management and ecological services for the Calhoun Road project.
The approximately two-mile stretch of Calhoun Road is being reconstructed to address deteriorated pavement, current and future traffic volumes, poor sight distances, and a rough Canadian Pacific Railroad crossing. The surrounding land use consists mainly of single-family residential properties with commercial properties at either end and between two railroad crossings. Fairview South School, Victory International Fellowship Church, and the Sikh Religious Society of Wisconsin also border the project.
The Calhoun Road corridor serves as a critical link for the traveling public as a north-south arterial in the center of Brookfield. The improvements to this segment of Calhoun will complement, and add to the continuity of, other portions of the Calhoun Road corridor that have previously been reconstructed. R.A. Smith National also designed the 1.3-mile reconstruction of Calhoun from WIS 59 (Greenfield Avenue) to US 18 (Bluemound Road) under I-94, including the replacement of the I-94 bridges over Calhoun Road. The project was constructed in 2008 and 2009.
