STH 67 over Ashippun River - Waukesha County, Wisconsin

STH 67 over Ashippun River - Waukesha County, WisconsinThe existing STH 67 structure had sight distance issues from an existing intersection at the northern side of the structure. In order to meet, and duplicate, existing hydraulic conditions, it was determined that the existing full retaining abutments would be cut off and left in place at an elevation slightly higher than the 100-year flood elevation.  A single-span, prestressed-girder bridge was designed over the Ashippun River. The plans and specifications met WisDOT standards and the requirements of the Wisconsin Bridge Manual. The project team’s design allowed part of the existing foundations to remain in place, enabling all of the work to be performed outside of the stream. This environmentally friendly solution provided several key benefits, including preservation of the stream’s natural habitat, no need for site restoration, significant cost savings, and the ability to meet the client’s compressed schedule.
