Pike River Restoration, Village of Mount Pleasant, Racine County, Wisconsin

Pike River Restoration, Village of Mount Pleasant, Racine County, WisconsinThe Pike River restoration project is one of the largest river restoration projects in the upper Midwest.  Restoration efforts began in 2002, and additional restoration occurs downstream each year. R.A. Smith National subcontracted to Thompson and Associates Wetland Services to monitor the invasive giant reed grass Phragmites australis and assist with control along several miles of restored streambank. Control efforts involve monitoring and mapping Phragmites populations followed up by herbicide treatments, which are ongoing. Future monitoring and control of Phragmites along newly proposed phases of the project continues in the summer annually.
