Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital & Clinics New Hospital Campus - Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin
R.A. Smith National provided site planning, civil engineering and landscape architectural services for the development of a new 200,000-square-foot hospital and medical office building on a 110-acre campus. The site planning process included extensive coordination with the municipality to explore options for future development patterns on the overall campus. The landscape and site engineering were closely integrated in order to design an extensive storm water management plan that included the use of bioretention for infiltration, water quality swales and a large infiltration basin. Special areas of the site such as courtyards, a dining patio and a meditation garden were developed to take advantage of views from the interior of the hospital and to offer visitors and patients a serene, natural environment.
The landscape theme for the campus was established early on by the landscape architect, client and the rest of the design team in order to capture the intent of using the bold, overlapping, natural landscape patterns and topography of the region, including hardwood tree groves, expansive and open meadow grass areas and evergreen trees.
