Madison Children's Museum Rooftop Garden - Madison, Wisconsin
Considered one of the nation’s top five children’s museums by Parent’s Magazine, R.A. Smith National provided landscape architectural, surveying and civil engineering services for relocating the museum to a unique site located off Madison’s noted Capitol Square.
Landscape architectural services were integral in creating an interpretative and interactive experience for visitors at the museum’s rooftop garden. A collaborative design approach was initiated with R.A. Smith National’s landscape architectural group, The Kubala Washatko Architects, the Madison Children’s Museum’s creative staff and a green roof system supplier.
The museum has won accolades for its sustainable design features. It is pursuing a LEED-EB rating and anticipates becoming the first LEED-rated museum in Wisconsin. An example of its many sustainable features is an efficient drip-irrigation system to supply specific areas and meet the needs of the various plant types. The museum has won the Environmental Design and Construction Excellence in Design Awards, Institutional Category.
