27th Street / STH 241 Corridor - Milwaukee County, Wisconsin

27th Street / STH 241 Corridor - Milwaukee County, WisconsinR.A. Smith National was a member of a consultant team retained by WisDOT to conduct an EIS for the WIS 241 corridor (South 27th Street) in the communities of Franklin and Oak Creek.

WIS 241 is a six-mile urban corridor that functions predominantly as a four-lane divided roadway, while the northern mile functions as a six-lane divided roadway. The land uses vary significantly from heavy commercial and office development on the northern end to light industrial, residential and undeveloped land on the southern end.

R.A. Smith National was responsible for conducting an intersection alternatives analysis at the 14 major intersections along the corridor. The project tasks include the analysis and conceptual design of two and three-lane roundabouts at the 14 intersections.

Multiple roundabout designs were created for each intersection to account for the variables of a potential new Drexel Avenue interchange with I-94 and the alternatives of either a four-lane or six-lane typical section for the corridor.

R.A. Smith National was also responsible for resolving the complex traffic forecasting issues associated with the corridor.
