STH 100 (Mayfair Road) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin

STH 100 Mayfair roadMayfair Road will serve as an alternate route to USH 45 during the Zoo Interchange Reconstruction project. Poor pavement and bridge deck conditions necessitate the improvement of Mayfair Road to improve ride quality and prepare it for use as an alternate route.

The scope of this $12 million, 2-mile project involves reconstructing the southbound lanes of Mayfair Road below the USH 45 overpass bridge to provide additional vertical clearance, pre-overlay repairs and resurfacing of Mayfair Road from Watertown Plank Road to Burleigh Road, repairing deteriorated storm sewer, and overlaying and repairing the bridge over Underwood Creek and the Canadian Pacific Railroad.

CHALLENGES/SOLUTIONS
The primary design challenge of this project is to complete the construction of the project in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining access to the numerous businesses along the corridor. A high degree of coordination is required during design to solicit input from and keep the adjacent business owners, employees, and patrons informed of the project progress and potential impacts to traffic operations.

Construction staging is designed to maintain existing access to large traffic generators including Mayfair Mall, the post office, several car dealerships, numerous restaurants, and many other commercial properties at all times during construction.
