April 13, 2009
Calhoun Road will again close on April 13th, and will remain closed until August 16th, 2009. This is the same closure duration but at a later date than had originally been expected because of some additional work required before the bridge removal. All side roads will be restricted from access, as was the case last year. Residents and businesses along Calhoun Road, Judith Lane or Elizabeth Drive will be allowed to access the workzone via Greenfield Avenue or Bluemound Road. Passage under IH 94 will not be allowed, so access of properties north of the bridge should be by Bluemound Road and properties south of the bridge should be by Greenfield Avenue. The turn lanes at Greenfield Avenue and Bluemound Road will be closed to local access only. The left turn lane from Greenfield Avenue to northbound Calhoun Road will be restricted. Deliveries, customers, and visitors will also be allowed to access the work zone under the same restrictions.
The median crossovers on IH 94 are being repaired, and will be put into service again during the week of April 13th. All traffic will utilize the westbound lanes of IH 94 to allow the construction of the new eastbound bridge.
Activity will be mostly located between Judith Lane and Deer Park Drive this season. The next few weeks will involve the removal of the existing pavement, excavation for installation of storm sewer and water and sanitary utilities, and rough grading for final pavement.
The existing EB IH 94 bridge and temporary bridge will be removed along with the approach roadway and widened pavement that was installed for last years stage. Within that 5 week period, it is expected that excavation and pile driving will start for the foundations of the new IH 94 EB bridge.
The field office phone number is 262-797-7903 and is located at 1300 S. Calhoun Road. Any concerns regarding the activity should be directed to the engineering staff. Of course, in case of an emergency, please contact the police. We are typically on site between 7am and 5pm, but can make arrangements for meetings outside of those hours. We recognize the inconvenience that all the residents and commuters are experiencing and appreciate the patience that has been demonstrated. We also want to emphasize to everyone to continue practicing safe decision making near or in the work zone. |
