Our Team
Our multi-disciplinary team of bike planners, transportation engineers, traffic safety experts, registered landscape architects, geographic information systems (GIS) experts, 3D visualization animators and illustrators, graphic designers, construction services professionals and one of the largest survey crews in the State of Wisconsin provide a well-rounded, thorough approach to successful bike trail and pedestrian path projects.
What's Important
Connectivity, loops, links, corridors, aesthetics, amenities and scenic view sheds provide the foundation for safe, enjoyable biking and walking experiences for individuals of all ages. R.A. Smith National's design team members include passionate bikers, long distance runners, parents with bike trailers and young riders, and avid walkers, so they understand and value the importance of designing carefully planned trails for all types of users -- and that biking and walking should be FUN.
WisDOT/Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Project Development Process
R.A. Smith National has worked with WisDOT and FHWA on many challenging projects over the last 25 years. Our team knows how to efficiently navigate plans and documents through the approval processes.
Public Participation
Our project team is skilled in the public participation planning process. We have the understanding and expertise to handle the range of contentious issues that sometimes arise from adding bike and pedestrian amenities at the expense of additional right-of-way or a loss of trees.
Permitting and Regulatory Agency Approvals
R.A. Smith National specializes in environmental and historical coordination and permitting, enabling us to provide quality documents that assure efficient and thorough agency reviews.
Utility Coordination
Utility coordination is initiated early in the design process to avoid re-design at the final plan stage, which can detrimentally affect the project schedule.
Grants Research/Writing
R.A. Smith National works with clients to identify funding sources and obtain grants for bike trail and pedestrian path projects. Our online Grants Directory provides registered users with free access to information about a wide range of state of Wisconsin and federal grant programs.
