Donges Bay Road Bicycle/Pedestrian Path

 R.A. Smith National provided complete survey and design services for this 1.6-mile, 10-foot wide bicycle and pedestrian path located on the north side of Donges Bay Road between Wauwatosa Road and Lemke Park. The project was funded under the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant program, administered by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
The project provided a connection between existing paths located adjacent to Wauwatosa Road and along Swan Road to residential areas and Lemke Park. Challenges included minimizing the grading so as to match existing grade at the right-of-way line (minimize easement acquisition); acquiring permits to fill several roadside wetland areas; storm water drainage between the path and the existing roadway; and avoidance of trees along the route in residential areas.
